Opechancanough was Powhatan's brother, he became the cheif of the Powhatan Confederacy after Powhatan died in 1618. On Good Friday, March 22, 1622, Opechancanough led an attack on the settlements outside of Jamestown that killed 347 colonists. The English came back from it, and a bad cycle of attacks continued for the next 10 years. Finally, in 1632 the English and the Indians reached an agreement of peace, however, it only lasted 12 years. In the spring of 1644 Opechancanough led one last battle that killed about 500 colonists. But this time in the battle he was captured. Later he was murdered at Jamestown by an English prison guard.
